Before me and David got engaged, I knew that whenever we did, I wanted to make a blog to keep everyone updated on our journey together. Right after we got engaged last night, many people kept asking "How did he propose?!". So, I decided to make the blog that I originally wanted to make. Now, I can tell everyone the amazing story all at once.....
The last couple of days, my mom and David had been acting suspicious. Most people wouldn't have been able to catch on, but I know both of them too well not to catch on. Anyway, Mother's Day (yesterday) came around, and I felt like something was up, but I wasn't quite sure what exactly. We went to church, went out to lunch, then came back to my house with all of my family. I noticed that my mom and David kept texting eachother, and then I noticed David followed my dad outside to the front yard. I knew that they were going to talk because they don't usually go around hanging out on a daily basis (or at all, for that matter) ;) And what do you know, I was right......
When David (finally) came back inside, I knew that something was really up. He had this crooked little smile on his face and so did my mom. I asked him what was up, and he just kept brushing the question off. After hanging out for a little bit in our living room, he asked me to go upstairs and grab my shoes. I told him that my shoes were downstairs, so he asked me to go upstairs anyway, and he would call me when he was ready for me to go back downstairs.
So, I went up to my room and sat on my bed. I texted two of my closest friends telling them that I didn't know what was going on, but something was up. After a while of waiting in my room, David asked me to go back downstairs. He asked me to get my sandals on, then he led me to the backyard where he had his iPhone and speakers set up. He told me that he wanted to dance with me. Me and him dance together alot so I didn't think that was too out of the ordinary....except for the fact that it was in our backyard and the timing was really interesting. I asked him why we were dancing in the backyard where all of my family could see, and he said that he didn't think they were watching anymore. He said that they wanted to give us that alone time so that he could tell me the good news. I turned around and saw that my family had closed the blinds so the two of us could be alone. Well, besides that fact that my mom was acting like the paparazzi.....
He played a couple of our favorite songs as we swayed to the music together. As we were dancing, he told me that he got my parents' blessing to marry me whenever he got a ring. He told me that he was sorry that it wasn't today because I am dating a poor man haha At the beginning of the dance, I thought that I was going to be engaged by the end of the night because of everything that had taken place the last couple of days. By the end of the second song, David had me so convinced that he didn't have a ring, and I accepted the fact that we would just have to wait to be engaged. After the second song ended, he asked me to close my eyes. When he told me that, I knew what was about to happen, and my heart started pounding in my chest......
He started talking to me as I heard him change the song to "You & Me" by Lifehouse. "You & Me" was the first song that we had ever danced to as a couple. I heard him say my full name, and my heart began beating even faster. I couldn't believe this was really happening to me. I heard him say a few more sentences to me, and then he told me to open my eyes. When I opened my eyes, he was kneeling before me on one knee with the ring opened before me. Then, I heard 4 of the most beautiful words that I have ever heard come from his mouth. "Will you marry me?"
I nodded "yes" because I was too shocked to speak.
I kept holding onto him, in total awe of what just took place. He whispered in my ear, "Don't you think I should put the ring on?". I was so excited that I forgot that he had to actually put the ring on for it to become official haha
I hugged him for a few more moments, then I backed up so he could slip the ring on my finger....
At that moment, I could see my family standing on the other side of the sliding glass door. They had all witnessed what just took place. I was so beyond happy that they got to share that amazing moment with us, but yet, it was so private at the same time.
After hugging for a little while longer (and after wiping all the tears that fell onto my cheeks as you can see above), we walked inside to see my family.
Everyone was clapping for us, and my mom, aunt, and grandma all had tear-filled eyes. We were greeted by a ton of "Congratulations!" and even more hugs.
Checking out my gorgeous ring. He did such an amazing job at picking out the perfect one.
Here it is.....Isn't it beautiful?
My daddy looking at my ring.
After things settled down, me and David called my friend that I have known since I was born to tell her the amazing news!
After we called her, we called David's mom then we called my best friend, Kenzie, who lives in Oregon.
Me and David decided that it was a night to celebrate so we gathered some friends, and we went out for some dinner and a night out.
Thank you to everyone who has been supporting us through our dating relationship and now our engagement. We love you all so much, and we are so glad that you can follow us on our journey to becoming one!
Love,
Ashley
